Dental Cosmetics

Dental cosmetics have become one of the most popular forms of cosmetic enhancements. The smile has always been considered the most endearing of facial expressions. One that can show kindness, openness and confidence. One that can equally hide embarrassment, discomfort and uneasiness.

In all expressions it is important to have teeth to go with the smile. Magazines and models from all over the world are turning to the dental chair to enhance their beauty. Whether it is to add gold to the teeth as they do in the east to represent wealth, or to grind them down to points to show manhood and fierce warrior strength, we all have used ivory for more than chewing. The most recent, has been the use of whitening agents to lighten darkened teeth. It is generally considered whiter teeth signify youth.

Veneers

Veneers have been hugely popular and getting more so. Many of my patients want minor changes to their teeth and worry about cutting them down to points. Veneers are an art form and an extremely exciting part of cosmetic dentistry. Fewer teeth have to be taken away and in some cases none at all. A thin slip of porcelain is bonded over the tooth and the shape and shade whitened if necessary to the patient’s satisfaction. Most veneer cases I refer to my cosmetic technician to take a professional shade. This is done on a particular time of the day so the afternoon darkness doesn’t give a false impression of tooth colour. The shape and characteristics are discussed with my master ceramicist and the result is beautiful. They are then tried in and fitted to your satisfaction. It is possible to get a diagnostic wax up (Mock up) before we even start so your expectations can be understood and realised. So we can achieve your every need.

Crowns

Crowns are equally artistic. They can look as real as an untouched tooth. The tips of the teeth can have a translucency like glass, a realness that is quite amazing. I would like to take the credit for this art work but at this point need to pass this over to my master ceramicist. My cosmetic technician will build a tooth from the complicated preparations I send him, one where the angles are cut to ensure the crowns stay in: I understand are many patients’ fears. The best crown you can get, in my opinion, is Zirconium and there is much research based around this crown type. It is strong yet beautiful. The Internet has a host of sites about crowns and how the tooth is prepared. I have found all teeth are different. It is too difficult to generalise. On your consultation we can discuss in depth the methods that are suitable for you.

Dentures

Dentures have become the last option for cosmetic treatment. Patients prefer the freedom of an empty palate, the avoidance of the glass at the side of the bed. Patients experience many problems with full dentures that can be rectified in some way. Implants may be required to hold the loose denture, or a new set may be required. I use vivadent teeth. In my opinion these are the most natural. They can look as real as the teeth that were once removed. It can be so helpful to bring along a photograph of yourself in the early days. Building on the natural form makes the cosmetic side of dentures far more straight forward. Losing your teeth and having full dentures is not the end of the world even though it feels devastating at the time for some. In times gone by it was considered a natural event to adulthood. We provide a wax try in to represent what you will look like after the treatment. This ensures your expectations are being met.

I hope that this has been helpful: there are so many forms of cosmetic dentistry that may be suitable for you. We treat a huge range at The Whyte House and my main advertising success is through word-of-mouth. I love my job enormously: every case is different and after ten years in practice, I hope I can meet your expectations. I wish I could describe all procedures but the following include a few questions I get asked and they may relate to you. If they do you can be reassured that The Whyte House is worth a call.

Questions I get asked on many occasions:

  • Can you sort my one dark tooth?
  • Can you fix my worn down teeth?
  • Can you lighten my teeth but not make them look too white?
  • Can you mend my chipped tooth without crowns and veneers?
  • Can you remove the stains in my teeth?
  • Can you close off the gaps without crowns/veneers?

The list is endless and can be done if you are suitable. I do hope I see you at the practice. We have a customer care policy that will ensure you are relaxed and fully informed from the second you enter the clinic and until you leave.
